Singing lessons for adults and teenagers: discover your voice in a supportive and creative environment

Whether you’ve only ever sung in the shower or you’re looking to refine your technique, my singing lessons in Meilen offer a warm, pressure-free space. We focus on building your confidence and finding a repertoire that you truly love to sing.

My lessons are for you whether you are a complete beginner, want to overcome “performance jitters,” or are looking to develop your professional vocal range. We’ll go at a pace that suits your voice and your goals.

We all sang when we were little, but it’s easy to lose confidence in our ability when all it might take is some training and encouragement to re-discover something we used to do so naturally.

What do singing lessons include?

We’ll bridge the gap between technical vocal skill and creative expression. The balance of activities in our singing lessons is something we’ll work out together, and can include:

Vocal health and breathing: learn the mechanics of support and how to protect your voice so you can sing without strain. You’ll learn warm ups and exercises to keep your voice healthy and ready to sing.

Ear training and sight singing: we’ll train your ear so you can hear intervals and harmonies and learn how to negotiate rhythm and melody, including singing harmonies and different parts

Music reading and musicianship: you’ll learn the basics of note reading (or more!) so you can find your way around a song and understand what everything on the page means

Improvisation: right from the start you’ll be introduced to improvisation, and how to be creative when singing

Recording technique: you’ll learn the basics of how to record your voice and layer harmonies

Performance skills: build the courage and skills to use a microphone, understand stage presence, and really own your space

Song writing and arranging: how to write lyrics and melodies and arrange a song

Finding your unique style: we’ll explore different genres, from pop and contemporary through to folk, jazz, classical, and musical theatre

Your first singing lesson

We’ll be singing together right from the first lesson, which means you’ll be learning to listen critically, improving your sense of pitch and rhythm, and learning how to open your mouth and take that first breath without fear.

Recording studio

Just like in my piano lessons, we’ll use my professional recording studio as a core part of the learning process:

Track your progress: Recording your vocals is the fastest way to develop your “ear” and hear your tone and ability to reach the notes you want improve.

Build a portfolio: You’ll be able tecord high-quality versions of your favourite covers or original songs.

Songwriting and arranging: If you have lyrics or melodies in your head, we can bring them to life with professional arrangements and vocal layering right here in the studio.

Singing lessons FAQ

I’m tone deaf. Will I still be able to sing?

Yes, yes, yes is the answer to this question! Some people think you have to be born with a special gift to be able to sing, but it’s actually a physical skill involving muscle memory and ear training. If you have the desire to learn, I promise you we build that foundation together.

Do I have to perform in front of other people?

Never if you don’t want to. Our goal is your personal growth. While we can record your singing in the studio to track your progress, it is entirely for your own enjoyment and development.

What if I’m too nervous to open my mouth and sing in the first lesson?

This is a common feeling for new singers! My studio is a judgment-free zone. We start exactly where you are, using gentle exercises designed to help you find your courage and enjoy the physical sensation of singing. You don’t even have to sing by yourself at first, if you don’t want to. We’ll start by singing together and take it from there.

Can I learn online?

Yes, you can. I will send you backing tracks for all exercises we do as well as any songs we decide to work on. The main difference is that we won’t be able to sing together. If it’s possible, it can be a good idea to begin with a few lessons together to get you started.

Singing lessons for younger learners

Children love to sing! It’s a natural way for them to express themselves, whether singing solo or with others. In my studio there is a difference between singing lessons for younger children (from age ten) and those for older learners (from age twelve/thirteen).

Because younger singers are still growing physically the focus is less on technique and more on ear training, pitch control, breathing, and sight-singing. We do lots of singing together, including part-songs, rounds (canons), as we as working on songs that students choose themselves.

Musicianship skills

An other option is to try musicianship skills for a little while. These lessons have none of the pressure of reading and performing but still all the fun. They are a great way to prepare for piano lessons. For more information, go to musicianship skills

Recording studio

Recording is also an integral part of all lessons, providing the opportunity to listen critically, and to experiment with layering harmonies and backing vocals, as well as percussion.
