The first step: a free get-to-know-you session
Before we commit to a schedule, I invite all prospective students to a free 30-minute introductory session. This is a relaxed time for us to meet at the studio in Meilen, Kanton Zürich (or online), discuss your musical goals, and see how we can work together. There’s no pressure to play or sing unless you feel like it, but if you’re up for it we can try a little bit of playing or singing. But, really, it’s simply about making sure we’re the right fit for your musical journey.

What is included?
Your tuition covers more than just time at the piano or microphone. Every student at Discovering Music receives:
Professional Recording: Access to my studio equipment to track progress and record songs.
Tailored Materials: A mix of books, sheet music, and digital resources are used and will be sourced by the studio. Students will be invoiced for books and sheet music (including shipping costs) as required.
English-Language Instruction: Expert teaching in English for the Meilen and Zurich lake community.
Studio Resources: Use of my professional instruments and songwriting tools during lesson time.
A reserved day and time: When you book a lesson time you are booking a fixed-time reservation exclusively for use for the duration of the term. Up to one lesson missed due to illness can be made up within each term but
only if notice of at least four hours is given prior to the lesson. It is not possible to make up lessons
for reasons other than illness.
Booking and tuition structure
To accommodate the different needs of my students, I offer two ways to book and bill lessons:
For School-Aged Students: The term-based model
To ensure consistency and progress, school-aged students reserve a dedicated, recurring weekly slot.
Invoicing: Billed by the school term in advance. Term times coincide with the local school timetable but I’m happy to work out a slightly different schedule for students from schools with different timetables.
Consistency: Your tuition secures your specific day and time exclusively for the duration of the term.
Absences: As your time slot is reserved for you, lessons missed due to social events or travel remain payable. Up to one lesson missed due to illness can be made up within each term. It is not possible to make up lessons for any other reason.
For Adult Students: The flexible model
I understand that adult life involves travel and changing work commitments. I offer a more flexible approach for independent learners.
Invoicing: Billed monthly in arrears (after the lessons have taken place).
Scheduling: We work together to find times that fit your changing calendar.
Cancellations: I simply ask for 24 hours’ notice for any changes. This allows me to offer that time slot to other students.
