I started learning the piano at age five after being given the choice by my parents of piano or ballet. It was with regret that I let go my dream of wearing a pink tutu to sit down at the piano stool, but I have never looked back! I gained my eighth grade AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board) piano certificate at age sixteen and started learning french horn at age fifteen.

After I finished secondary school I completed a Bachelor of Music degree, concentrating on piano and horn performance, as well as choral performance and instrumental teaching, at the University of Queensland, in Brisbane, Australia. I then went on to complete a Master of Arts at Monash University, Melbourne. I am currently enrolled in a Phd programme at Deakin University, Melbourne.

I have taught music for many years, both privately in my own studios and in schools. My youngest student has been four and my oldest seventy-four. I use a variety of teaching methods, depending on the student, their level of playing when they first come to me, and their own particular areas of interest. I’ve conducted small groups as well as a concert band, and I've also taught many music classes for preschool kids based on singing and rhythm and generally having as much fun as possible.

But I also love performing. Since leaving school singing has been my big passion, and I have sung in a number of pop bands and classical ensembles, including the Melbourne Chorale, now called the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Chorus.

Bands I've sung in have supported Prince and Concrete Blonde, and I've sung in a small vocal group providing harmonies for Barbra Streisand.

I've recorded two CDs as lead vocalist with the Australian pop band "The Tamarillos" and worked extensively in recording studios as a session vocalist, singing rock, jazz, funk and pop. With my husband Malcolm on piano I have been singing jazz (and pop!) for many years in both Australia, England, and now Switzerland. I currently sing with the Schwann Big Band.

As well as teaching I've undertaken postgraduate study in the areas of social and education policy. I've worked in the education and training sector as a careers counsellor, lecturer, researcher and writer, and as an organisational consultant to the non-profit sector. But music will always be my first love!

I now live in beautiful Meilen with my piano playing husband, our eleven-year-old daughter, Tilda, who goes to the local school, and Elsie, our very fluffy cat. As you can imagine, our household is not a quiet one!
